Cruising at Saltash Sailing Club

Cruising is an integral part of Saltash Sailing Club’s make-up. It splits almost 50:50 with the racing fraternity boat numbers, but due to its low key adventures on the water compared to racing activities, it does not feature quite so highly on the Club’s profile.

This section of the Club can be called a loose collection of friends who have mostly completed their racing days and who occasionally get together to cruise in company to a port either in the near vicinity of Saltash or overseas to the Channel Islands, Brittany and further afield. In addition to these organized cruises, most of the time members cruise individually.

Those members with motor cruisers are, of course, most welcome to join in.

The organized cruise is normally arranged voluntarily by a member of the Club and it is done to encourage the not-so-experienced members to join in and cruise in company to the chosen destination, thus gaining confidence in their own ability and joining in at the other end to enjoy the atmosphere of arriving safely. In the past these “in company” cruises have proved very successful with trips to the Channel Islands and Brittany to name but a few.

The week-long Fowey Regatta in mid-August is also a popular meeting point for members.

At the end of the season we have been short-cruising to Fowey or The Yealm for a get together to celebrate the year and to empty all those lockers.

Details of all cruises in company will be posted on this website and on the Club notice board in due course.  A SSC cruisers Facebook page has also been set up to keep in touch with short notice changes of plan.
