Chris Randall
(Hon Treasurer)

Being an accountant and having been a member of the club for over 45 years since I was 3 or 4, I finally succumbed and agreed to take on the role of Treasurer for the club in 2018. My parents joined the club when they got their second boat an 18 foot silhouette which believe or not the four of us slept on board a few times. They had two further
boats, the last one was a Sadler 32 called Sethor (Cornish for gannet).
My own first boat was a mirror sailing dinghy which I got aged 10 with my younger sister. I was cadet from 11 until 18 sailing the mirror and then latterly briefly a
windsurfer. During that time I was also really lucky to sail on many yachts in the club and am very thankful to a large number of owners who put up with my foul ups on the foredeck of their boats during races. The first boat I ever sailed on for a Thursday
evening series was a J24 called Joker owned by Marcus and Chaz Anderson, this has become entirely appropriate as J24’s have been the class I’ve been sailing in for
the last 10 years, and now have my own called ‘Hitchhiker’. Away from sailing, I’m married to Deborah and between us we have 5 children and 3 grandchildren, two of whom have the sailing bug. Having lived in Saltash for all of my life she persuaded me 5 years ago to ‘cross the water’ and we now live beside Hooe lake in Plymstock with a dog and two cats. Both of us work in finance as accountants and have our own finance company. Amongst the children, the
youngest my son James has his own share in an RS400 dinghy and has been part of a youth J24 crew doing national and international events for the last 3 years
(disappointingly aged 20 he is already a much better sailor than his Dad!!). Oliver, Deborah’s youngest has also got into sailing since I introduced him, and press
ganged him into being at the front of a J24 on Thursday’s and away at events. He has also done his own adventure helping his uncle sail a 40 ft cruising catamaran from Portugal to the Canary Islands several years ago. I’m passionate about sailing and spending time on the water, and love taking friends,
family (and strangers!!) out and introducing them to sailing. I believe we have an excellent club which is very much a ‘sailing’ club, not a yacht club and encourages all activities on the water from paddleboarding/kayaking and dinghy/yacht cruising through to hotly contested dinghy and yacht racing, right up to the pinnacle which is probably the gig rowing section of the club who have multiple world championships
to their name. The cadet section is a great training ground for our younger members, and has been actively encouraging local children from all backgrounds to become
involved. I believe our club is the most inclusive, friendly and provides the widest variety of
watersports in the port. A big key to our success is active member involvement, and steady, sustainable improvements to club facilities and activities whilst still ensuring they remain affordable to the membership. Alongside your management committee I am committed to keeping the financial health of the club in good order and making good use of what is effectively your money as the membership. We always welcome
new ideas in terms of improvements for all areas of the club including the financial
aspects and please contact me if you want to discuss anything: chrisd.randall@hotmail.co.uk

On joining Saltash Sailing Club, racing continued in dinghies and crewing on various yachts, with visits to local regattas, as well as the Cork regatta until eventually owning a Trapper 300 yacht in 2008.  I continue to race within the Club, Port and South West events.

I started sailing in 2001 and did my first Caribbean circuit and transatlantic in 2003.
I like ocean sailing rather than ‘racing round the cans’.
I’ve completed 5 trips across the Atlantic and numerous cruises to the Azores. My favourite cruising grounds are the Eastern Mediterranean and the windward islands but Scotland is beautiful too. So far I’ve clocked up 31,000 ocean miles; I don’t count the local stuff.
I raced with the RNSA single handlers for 8 years and once won the Robin Lloyd Williams Trophy!
I’ve owned 3 yachts. Temptress a YCA 29 which I sailed to UK from Istanbul. My previous boat was Mojo  - a Moody 346 - and since last summer my project boat has been Fluito, a Jeanneau Fantasia.

I started sailing aged 14 with the school’s sailing club. After a long break, I got back into sailing when my wife and I bought a Seal 22. In recent years we have got involved in dinghy racing with Laser 2, Fireball and Wayfarers. I set up the dinghy cruising section with Geoff Evans which meets on a Wednesday night. We purchased Kabouter (Trapper 26) and then traded up to Lone Star (Beneteau First 325) four years ago. We do some yacht racing but mainly enjoy cruising (usually in company).

I am married to Caroline and have three children and four grandchildren. My eldest daughter Samantha is a cadet senior instructor (currently on maternity leave). Caroline and I are regular safety boat drivers on Tuesday nights.

My primary focus in the club is making sure the IT and all things complicated work. I have lots of DIY pursuits including 3D printing, CNC, welding, and woodworking. Chris Randall says I have a high ‘nerd score’ whatever that means!

I started 35 years ago as an 11 year old sailing club cadet and now find myself as one of the three senior dinghy instructors in the cadet section and have been instructing at Saltash for the last 7 years.

In that 35 years I have owned a Jeanneau Sunfast and done a lot of racing with the Muskox crew, including several Fastnet races, Cowes, Round the Island, Cork, Dartmouth, Antigua week and BVI Spring Regatta.

Until recently I was also racing an RS400 on Tuesday nights.

Married to Julie with 3 kids (1 of whom is a club dinghy instructor), we now like to charter for additional family time. During the summer months, I can be found at the club most nights of the week either volunteering with the cadets, dinghy sailing or yacht racing or tinkering with boats.

My interests are around the longterm prosperity of the club and the continual improvement. I also have a passion for facilitating sailing for the cadet section and for new members who will be the future of the club. If you see me around, do say hi; I’m always happy to hear member’s views and ideas.

I started sailing as a cadet at SSC; I moved away in my late teens and stopped sailing but when I moved back to Saltash six years ago, I worked part time at the bar and was asked to crew for a race and it's all gone on from there!

I enjoy racing and have crewed in races in Plymouth Sound and out on the river. I recently completed the Round the Island race and had a fantastic time!

I focus on social media so promoting the club through Facebook and Instagram and finding ways to communicate all the different activities the club has to offer.
